With more than half of Americans living in areas that have passed laws requiring smoke-free restaurants and bars, and a host of major hotel chains also going smoke-free, the nonprofit Kids Involuntarily Inhaling Secondhand Smoke (KIISS) has prepared three new pamphlets on how going smoke-free is good for health and good for business. The pamphlets, along with a recently released set of DVDs from KIISS, feature testimonials from restaurant, bar and hotel operators from coast to coast telling how they made the conversion to becoming smoke-free and what effects this change has had on their businesses.

“Some of the testimonials come from people once vehemently opposed to smoke-free policies, who now say their fears were unfounded,” said KIISS President Paul McIntyre.

Many studies on secondhand smoke have borne out conclusions as to its dangers, culminating in the Surgeon General’s 2006 groundbreaking report detailing secondhand smoke’s indisputable and serious health consequences. More and more, businesses are going smoke-free voluntarily.

“The big hotel chains that have gone smoke-free did so voluntarily and many of their competitors are poised to make the same move,” McIntyre says.

The KIISS smoke-free pamphlets and DVDs for restaurants, bars and hotels are free and can be ordered or downloaded directly from KIISS’ website at http://www.kiiss.org or by calling 916-780-0226. Furthermore, they can also be seen on youtube.com.
